SG-20 Adhesive used with Leather

Jessica Williams

Recently we received an email from a customer who was wondering if SG-20 would work to repair her leather boots. The customer had cracks across her work boots that she occasionally repaired using caulk. The problem was that this repair technique was only holding up for about a month. She was delighted to find out that SG-20 will bond to leather and will pretty much be a permanent seal!
In order to use SG-20 on a leather product, make sure that the leather is clean and dry. Apply the SG-20 directly over the area that you want to repair and wait for an hour before using.

SG-20 Adhesive for a Neoprene Dog Vest?

Jessica Williams

Earlier this month we received an email from a man interested in SG-20 Adhesive.  He wanted to know if it would repair a neoprene dog vest.  Here is how the Q&A went:

Q:
I will be custom fitting a neoprene dog vest.  This will require removing some excess material and gluing the neoprene back together.  Would you recommend SG-20 Adhesive for this application?

A:
Thanks for the question. SG-20 Adhesive would be perfect for this application.
Just make sure that the vest is dry when applying the material.  We would suggest using the contouring plastic sheet that comes with the kit, cut it in half anad place on sheet underneath the area  you are going to glue.  Then apply the SG-20 and place the second sheet on top of the material to smooth it out.  Let it dry for about 10 minutes (note that the thinner the material is spread out, the longer it will take for it to cure).  After 10 minutes, you can remove the plastic.  Once this repair is complete, the vest will more than likely wear out before the repair does.  It should be fantastic!

SG-20 Adhesive is one of Uber Apparatus' Best of Breed!

Jessica Williams

We are very proud to have announce that SG-20 Adhesive has received the "Best of Breed" award from Uber Apparatus!  Here is their official post:

Getting a rip in your $200 Muck Boots™ is enough to make grown man cry but we just discovered a way to make those tears of sorrow turn into tears of joy!  SG-20 [$20] is made of a propriety blend of two-part polyurethane adhesive material that adheres to neoprene, polyurethane, rubber and leather making it ideal for repairing many different styles of outdoor boots including the afire mentioned Muck Boots™, rain boots, XTRATUF boots, as well as clothing such as waders, frog togs, and rain gear.

Damaged gear can be fixed quickly in the field by simply wiping away surface dirt and water from the damaged material and applying SG-20. Whereas other repair adhesives may require up to 24 hours to cure, SG-20 sets in one minute and dries in one hour, creating a smooth, water-tight seal and keeping air, dirt and debris out. After it’s dry, SG-20 remains flexible, moving naturally with the material. Repairs with SG-20 are incredibly durable, lasting five or more years in the field.

Find a Hole with Rubbing Alcohol!

Jessica Williams

Here is a great idea we just read about in Field & Stream:

Gore-Tex is what most lightweight, breathable waders and rain gear are made of. This is a common material for this type of gear because it keeps you dry but remains flexible and keeps you from getting too clammy. But what happens when you poke a hole in it? If this has ever happened to you, you understand how uncomfortable you can become in a short amount of time, cutting your outdoor activity time considerably. This can be very frustrating, and what makes the situation worse is that most holes in Gore-Tex are pinholes and very hard to locate.

Fortunately there is an easy way to find these pesky holes! Simply turn your waders or rain gear inside out and spray it with rubbing alcohol. Holes will darken when the alcohol hits them.

Once you locate the hole, let the material dry and use SG-20 Adhesive to repair it. Remember on Gore-Tex to use SG-20 on the inside of your gear as it won’t stick to the Gore-Tex coating on the outside.

Happy adventures!

SG-20 Outdoor Adhesive Technical Question

Jessica Williams

Q: I have a pair of breathable waders that have a small, slow leak where the boots meet the material. If using your product, SG-20 Adhesive, how would I apply it to the seam from the inside like you state for breathable waders? The boot does not bend to get a good application. Or could one just apply it on the outside seam?  - D.R.

A: If the area, in question, is the breathable wader material we would not try to fix the leak there as it will not totally bond. This is because the breathable wader material is covered with a water resistant coating that SG-20 doesn't adhere to.  Instead, we would suggest turning the waders inside out as much as possible to access the area. You should be able to hit that area with the mix tip and then cover it with the pink plastic included in the kit.  If you can't reach the area with your mixing tip, then put enough material on the plastic and quickly place the plastic over the leak. Hold it there for 30 seconds, wait about 15 minutes, and then you can peel the plastic off.  We hope that helps.  Click HERE to see a video on applying SG-20 Adhesive to breathable waders. - F.R., Vettec, Inc.

Vettec's SG-20 Adhesive Works to Repair Breathable Waders

Jessica Williams

You already know that SG-20 can repair Muck Boots, but did you know that it also repairs Neoprene and Breathable waders?!? Well it does. For Neoprene waders, they repair can be done as long as the waders are clean and dry.

If a repair is being made on the breathable wader material you would not try to fix the leak on the outside of the waders as it will not totally bond.

Easy as that! Check out our instructional videos to see more.
